- A New Orchestra's in (Chi-)Town
Formed by Randall West and Brian
Baxter in 2010, the Chicago Composers Orchestra is dedicated to the
performance and advocacy of orchestral music by living composers.
The inagural concert will take place on August 19th, 2010 and
feature the premieres of four new works including Byrnes' Capriccio Tempestoso for harp and orchestra. More information can be found on the CCO's website, and on CCO's facebook page.

Channel Classics CD Released - Lavinia Meijer: Visions

Visions in Twilight by Garrett Byrnes is featured on a new CD of contemporary harp music by
Lavinia Meijer titled Visions. In addition to Byrnes, the CD includes selections by Britten,
Patterson, Yun and Takemitsu. Available from Channel Classics and all major CD websites.

- New Kalan CD Released - Ceren Necipoğlu: Bir Kitap Gibi
Visions in
Twilight and Amhrán
Slán by
Garrett Byrnes are included in a new 2 CD memorial
set honoring his
friend,
the late Turkish harpist Ceren Necipoğlu. The set includes repertoire
that was close to Ceren's heart, and
that she performed on her last concerts in Turkey and Rio.
The first disc features a small selection of live recordings from
Ceren's last concerts, and the
second disc is an homage by her colleagues and students showcasing the repertoire under studio
conditions. The CD was released on January 18, 2010 on the Kalan record label, and
corresponded with a memorial concert at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall in
Istanbul.

to Give Talk & Attend Premiere of New Solo Work at Eleventh World Harp Congress in Vancouver in July, 2011
Garrett Byrnes has
been invited to speak about his late friend Ceren Necipoğlu and
the harp music that he wrote for her.
The
talk will be scheduled during the Eleventh World Harp Congress in
Vancouver, BC Canada in July, 2011.
Just days before her death,
Necipoğlu
asked Byrnes if he would compose a new work for her to premiere at the
Eleventh World Harp
Congress. Without hesitation he said yes, and looks forward to
honoring this request. The new solo work, Valley of Butterflies (Kelebekler Vadisi), will be given its
premiere in memory of Necipoğlu by her close friend and colleague Şirin
Pancaroǧlu.
